Shore Conference Top 12

In a year where Mother Nature has been anything but predictable so has the results on any given day when baseball was actually played this spring around the Shore Conference.

Several teams have showed that when they have their ace on the hill they are almost unbeatable and when they don’t they can lose almost any game on any given day.

Selecting a Top 12 is about as easy as picking Powerball this year. There can almost be two polls one that has teams ranked with their top arm on the hill and one where everyone else could pitch.

Now throw into the mix that teams will have to pick and choose between NJSIAA state playoffs and Shore Conference you really throw a monkey wrench into the mix. This truly is a year of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The truth is that percentages are that this year the best team will not win the Shore Conference title but the one who is still alive after they get knocked out of the states and are able to throw their number one in the semi-finals or finals. This tournament will be won by the team that has the best 3 and 4 starters or even possibly a team that is not even in the top 12 that will not get a favorable seed in the state playoffs, get knocked out early and have their top 2 pitchers ready with focus on the Shore Conference Tournament. Also throw into the mix that the public schools are at a slight disadvantage over the non-public schools because they start the preliminary round 3 days earlier.

I have now had the opportunity to watch what we feel is the top 20 teams in the Shore this season. It took some doing with all of the rain but today we finally got the chance to see Barnegat to round out the list.

The Baseball U Top 12 poll is based on if each team played every team in our Top 12 poll in a two out of three game series on three consecutive days. If it were based on game 1 matchups the poll would be totally different. Based on one game matchups and each team having their number one going Barnegat, Central and CBA would be in our Top 3 but this is not the case.

Shore Conference Top 12 Poll

1.      1. -  Freehold Twp – Just a scrappy team that again started out a bit slow but has been consistently competing and winning. I am not sure if they know about the Shore Conference having teams in Ocean County because they do not play any but they have proven to be the most consistent team this year and can win with offense.

2.       2. - Jackson Memorial

3.       3. - Toms River East

4.      4. -  St. John Vianney

5.       5. - Central Regional

6.      6. -  CBA

7.       7. - Toms River North

8.      8. -  RBC

9.      9. -  Barnegat

10.   10. - Toms River South

11.   11. - Colts Neck

12.  12. - Wall
